Windows 8 Upgraders

Students' Area

If you are in this course, please go to the Students Area.

With Microsoft stopping support for Windows XP earlier in 2014 and intending to cut Windows 7 support in the next year or two, it is becoming more important for users to understand Windows 8, and to know the differences between it and the older operating systems.

Beginning on October 18 2014 Perth Time, [which is October 17 in the evening in North America], , CAVI is offering a Windows 8 Upgrader course for those who know Windows 7 or older but are not sure of the differences between those operating systems and Windows 8.

This course will be aimed at screen reader users, primarily Jaws or NVDA though we will look at other screen readers if we have demand from students.

The course will be three weeks long, with an option for a 4th lecture if necessary and will cover subjects including but not limited to:

  • Installation and Setup with Voice
  • The new and improved Narrator
  • The Ribbons
  • The new start screen and Apps menu
  • The new improved layout for what was "My Computer"
  • Control Panel and PCSettings
  • The Charms Bar
  • The App Store
  • The differences between the Metro or Modern apps and the traditional Desktop Apps
  • An overview of some of the more accessible built in Windows modern apps

Pricing

The course will cost $60. Payment will be due before the start of class, unless you have discussed alternative arrangements withus. You can pay fees via the Donate Via PayPal button on cavitraining.com, ciscovision.org, or cucat.org.

The price of the course includes:

  • Access to the live and recorded lecture
  • Access to notes
