Easy Organization for Busy Students and Professionals

Are you a busy student or working professional with a lot of projects going at once? Do you have classes, meetings, or symposiums where you need to take notes? Do you collaborate with people and need to share ideas, notes, and project files? Do you wish you had a tool to help you stay organized, a tool that won't let you lose important information when you need it? If so, read on.

This tool exists, and you may already have it on your computer or phone. Dropbox is a great solution for storing important notes, collaborating with people on projects, backing up your files, and many other things.

You may know about Dropbox, but do you know how to use it to make your work easier? Do you know how to turn it into a system that keeps you on time and on task with all of your projects?

CAVI instructor Monica Moen works as a web designer and freelance writer in addition to her work at CAVI. She has spent several years perfecting strategies that make Dropbox work as a powerful productivity system for managing multiple projects gracefully. She will share a wealth of tips and tricks you can use during the workshop.

  • What operating systems does Dropbox support?
  • How much does it cost?
  • How do I install and set up Dropbox?
  • How do I create and manage folders in Dropbox?
  • What is selective sync, and how do I use it?
  • How do I share a file with someone?
  • How do I share a folder and collaborate with someone ?
  • How can I access files from my phone or tablet?
  • How can I use Dropbox for notetaking?
  • How can I record lectures on my iPhone and get them into Dropbox automatically?
  • How can I backup my files in Dropbox?
  • How can I make sure my files are sent and stored securely?
  • Can I stream audio or video files from Dropbox to my phone or iPad without downloading them?
  • Are there other cool and unique things I can do with Dropbox?

When and Where?

This exciting workshop is being offered via the CAVI Teamtalk server on September 8th at two different times. You can choose the session that is more convenient for you.

The first session is timed just right for people in the UK, Europe, Africa, Canada, and the US. It will be held from 7:00 till 10:00 PM UK time, 2:00 until 5:00 PM Eastern time. click here to see this session in your time zone.

The second session is timed just right for people in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the US, and Hawaii. It will be held from 8:00 PM Eastern time until 11:00 PM. For people in Australia, the time would be Monday, September 9, from 8:00 AM until 11:00 AM, according to the time in Perth, Western Australia. click here to see this session in your time zone.

Enrolling in the Workshop

Workshop participants will receive several benefits in addition to attending the workshop. All attendees will receive access to the Teamtalk channel for the workshop, an mp3 file of the workshop, detailed written notes covering all aspects of Dropbox usage, a web page with links to useful projects people are doing with Dropbox, and access to a special email address where they can ask questions about Dropbox and get help for up to 60 days after taking the course. There will also be a drawing for a prize, a $25 gift certificate from Amazon.

This workshop is open to anyone, whether they are a current CAVI student or not. The cost of this workshop is $30 in US dollars. The fee needs to be paid at the time of enrollment.

There are three easy steps to enroll.

  • 1. Use the "pay for course" button on CAVI's Cucat site to pay for the course. When you make your $30 payment, please put the word "Dropbox" in the additional notes field of the payment form.
  • 2. Please send an email to dropbox-course at ciscovision.org to let Monica know you've sent a payment and want to enroll. She'll send you a welcome message with log-in details for the server.
  • 3. If you don't already have Teamtalk, please download and install the client for your operating system from the Teamtalk home page. Please let monica know if you need help doing this before the workshop. You can do this by writing to the email address listed in step 2.

We have written a step by step set-up guide for Teamtalk. It can help most users get going in a matter of minutes. Teamtalk works best under Windows, and we can help Mac Users move to the right channel if needed.
