Here is the Students Area? for the Cooking Short Course.

Welcome to a new kind of course from CAVI. Beginning on November 30 2014, Perth time, which is the evening of the 29th in North America, we will be offering a cooking fundamentals course aimed at those who would like to become more comfortable working in the kitchen. The course will teach the basics, like the best way to cut vegis and how to know when your hambergger is cooked through, but will also teach skills that more advanced cooks may want to know, such as how to make bread, without a bread machine.

The course aims at teaching cooks how to move away from prepackaged foods and create dishes that taste better and are healthier than out-of-the box options, and are quick and easy to prepare.

Each class will consist of a hands-on demonstration by the instructor, and a class discussion section.

Pricing

The course will cost $80 USD. Payment will be due before the start of class, unless you have discussed alternative arrangements withus. You can pay fees via the Donate Via PayPal button on cavitraining.com, ciscovision.org, or cucat.org.

The price of the course includes:

Course Outline

This is a guideline and may change based on student interest.

  • Week 1: Lets Make Breakfast. Dishes will include Bacon and Egg on a bun, Oatmeal, and possibly waffles. Discussion topics will include knowing your kitchen and your kitchen tools, how to find recipes online, and being safe when cooking.
  • Week 2: Let's Make Dinner. Dishes will be Pork Chops, Zesty Chicken, Mashed potatoes, and steamed vegetables s. Ddiscussion topics will include tips for working with meat, and alternatives to out-of-the-box cooking.
  • Week 3: Who Needs the Restaurant? Dishes will be pizza, Stir Fry, Caesar Salad and potato salad. Discussion topics may include ways to cook food that will kill your expensive restaurant cravings, and finding healthier alternatives to typically unhealthy food.
  • Week 4: Let's Bake. Dishes will be bread, Carrot Muffins, and no-bake cookies. Topics will include items such as techniques for measuring accurately, and how to substitute ingredients when baking.
